The I-55 bridge over the Mississippi River is closed due to interchange construction

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (KAIT) – If you’re headed to Memphis this weekend, you might want to get to your destination early.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation closed the I-55 bridge over the Mississippi River at 4 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, to continue construction at the I-55 and Crump interchange.

According to the press release, the following areas are closed until 6 a.m. Monday, October 28, depending on the weather:

I-55 southbound at Bridgeport Road in Arkansas
I-55 northbound at Southpark Way in Tennessee
- Local traffic will be allowed to continue until McLemore leaves
I-55 south exit
Crump Boulevard to the west

TDOT added that a detour is in place and all drivers are urged to use caution.
