Strict security measures during the football match between Israel and France in Paris

A total of 4,000 police and security personnel will be deployed in Paris and around the stadium, which hosted the athletics and rugby sevens events during this year’s Olympics.

On a rare occasion, police will also be stationed inside the stadium, performing functions normally performed by civilian security personnel.

An elite police force will guard the Israeli team as they travel to and from the stadium, while another 1,600 civilian security personnel will be on duty.

The security context has clearly affected attendance, with only about 13,000 spectators expected in a venue that can hold up to 80,000, French Interior Minister Bruno Retailo said on Wednesday.

Authorities say up to 20,000 tickets have been sold, but some ticket holders may be left out.

A source in the French police said that about 100 Israeli fans will attend the match. They will travel by bus to avoid using the underground metro.
