Salem man killed in car crash while eluding police

A Salem man allegedly fleeing a traffic stop in Russell County died Tuesday night after the motorcycle he was riding crashed on Lee County 401, according to an Alabama law enforcement agency.

Caleb T. Brown was trying to flee from a Russell County sheriff’s deputy when the 2021 Honda CBR1000 motorcycle he was riding left the road about 9:18 p.m. Tuesday and crashed into a tree about six miles south, authorities said. from Salem. Brown was pronounced dead at the scene of the one-vehicle crash.

Sheriff Heath Taylor said the pursuit began in Russell County, but did not provide a specific location. The deputy allegedly saw Brown speeding and turned on his blue lights to make a traffic stop. Brown allegedly sped off and a chase ensued. The pursuit ended in a crash on Lee County 401.

ALEA said there is no further information available at this point in the investigation.
