Jamil Branche, 23, was charged after Johnstown police officers were called to Ash Street on Oct. 6 for a report of three people shot, according to a criminal complaint. At the scene, officers were told that one of the victims, Isaiah Hickson, had died from his injuries.

During the investigation, police obtained surveillance video of the killing that showed both the shooter and the vehicle, according to the affidavit. Police said the footage showed a red Jeep Compass driving toward the 900 block of Ash Street before a man, later identified as Branch, reached out of the rear passenger window and allegedly shot the three victims.

The Jeep was then followed across town to the 1200 block of Franklin Street. Police obtained a search warrant for this vehicle and towed it to the Pennsylvania State Police for processing. They also obtained video from a home in the 1200 block of Franklin Street that shows two men getting out of a car just minutes after the shooting.

Branch was identified in the footage as the man who fired the shots that killed Hixon, according to the complaint. Police also said they received several reports naming Branche as the shooter.

On November 11, the police received a message from the PSP about the search of the car. They indicated that Branch’s fingerprints were found on the rear passenger door and on the inside door handle.

Branche is being held in the Cambria County Jail and has been denied bail. He is charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a firearm without a license and recklessly endangering another person.
