Joy Reid deletes X account, says ‘abuse’ and ‘negativity’ not worth it

MSNBC anchor Joy Reid deleted her X account Thursday morning, becoming the latest media pundit to quit the program since last week’s election.

Reid said in a video explaining her decision that X “wasn’t really worth it” because she had to “go through a lot of shit, a lot of hurt and negativity.”

She said she has only used X as a news aggregation tool for the past few years, since Elon Musk bought the app, then known as Twitter, in 2022. Reid said she “didn’t want to publish the content when it was acquired.” its current owner.”

Still, she kept her account, which had about 1.9 million followers at the time of its deletion on Thursday, because she was worried someone else would claim control of her account and use it for “nefarious purposes.”

You can check out her explanation in The Post Millennial’s X post below:

Reid became the latest high-profile media figure to leave X after the election. Former CNN anchor Don Lemon said goodbye to X on Wednesday, saying the app was not a place for “honest debate” under Musk’s leadership.

But the bigger problem for Lemon was X’s terms of service. X recently changed its rules, requiring users to file lawsuits against the company in Texas — either in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas or in state courts in Tarrant County. The changes take effect on November 15.

Lemon, citing A a recent Washington Post report for that matter, said in his own exit video that the change to X’s terms of service was bad news because state courts are too conservative-friendly.

“The citation ensures that such lawsuits will be heard in courts that are hotbeds for conservatives, which experts say could make it easier for X to defend itself against lawsuits and punish critics.” I think that speaks for itself,” Lemon said.

Other media representativesincluding MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace, left X after the election over Musk’s relationship with President-elect Donald Trump.

“As a human being, I deleted Twitter today out of self-preservation and because I could no longer find what I was interested in,” Wallace said.

Musk was Trump’s most vocal supporter in the run-up to the election, helping him win over voters in Pennsylvania and spending more than $100 million through his American Advisory Committee to help the Republican return to the White House.

Threads, a Meta X competitor, the number of daily users increased by 6.8%. after the election; It now has 11 million daily active users, according to data provided by Sensor Tower to TheWrap. Bluesky, X’s other social media rival, also saw a jump in users after the election. According to Sensor Tower, even though prominent media experts have left the app, X’s daily user base has grown by 5% since the election.
