The cat returns home after five years, but looks completely different | Great Britain | News

A woman was stunned when her cat returned home five years after disappearing looking completely unrecognizable.

Janine Yarell, 44, has given up hope of ever seeing her pet Bubba again after she disappeared without a trace and appeals on social media have yielded no results.

But Bubba, now 12, came home looking nothing like the cat Janine and her husband Rob rescued from the centre.

Bubba is believed to have been living as a stray in their hometown of Ashford, Kent, since 2019.

She was spotted under a car outside Janine and Rob’s home on Tuesday (November 12). A local resident posted a photo of the cat on Facebook, which led Janine to discover Bubba.

“I honestly didn’t think I’d see her again,” said Janine, who was reunited with Bubba on Wednesday (November 13). “Because she’s 12 now and she’s used to the creature comforts of home. So I couldn’t believe my eyes when her photo was posted on Facebook. We have checked her microchip and now she is finally home.”

Despite her matted fur, Bubba is in relatively good shape considering she’s short on time. Janine believes that Bubba has been surviving on the streets for the past five years, perhaps with occasional feeding.

Janine added: “Let this be a strong signal to all owners to check their pets’ microchip data is up to date. And above all, never, ever lose hope. I would like to thank everyone who shared her photos on social media. “

Yorkshire Cat Rescue offers advice to those whose cats have gone missing, suggesting that owners check with neighbours, put up posters and notify local vets and rescue centres.

Additionally, they advise, “Once your cat is less fearful, he will become hungry and be attracted to the smell of food. But be aware that other cats and wildlife may eat the food.

“Cats have a good sense of smell, and the familiar scents of a home can help them find their way back, especially if he or she is lost in an unfamiliar area. Leave unwashed clothing, litter tray and bedding outside.”
