Louisiana abduction: Boy says Artacia Quantaya Viguez ‘ran him over’, left him on the side of the road and falsely reported the abduction

Police in Louisiana say a woman has been arrested after she falsely reported a kidnapping, leaving her son unattended on a major road and allowing him to escape at night after throwing a tantrum.

The incident began on November 5, when authorities from the St. Landry County Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana responded to a report of a child who was allegedly abducted around 1 a.m. near US 190 and Industrial Road in Eunice, Louisiana, according to a statement from the St. Landry County Sheriff’s Office.

“The mother, Artasia Kwantaya Viges, reported that people in an older model truck abducted her son while she was parked in the roadway looking at a flat tire,” authorities said.

However, almost immediately after police arrived at the scene, deputies learned that the boy had been found by local residents, who found him unattended in the parking lot of the Heinen Medical Clinic with bruises on his knees, police said.

“The child told the police that the mother “ran over him” and left him on the side of the road,” authorities said. The child was taken to the nearest hospital. With such a huge discrepancy in the statements, St. Landry County Sheriff’s Juvenile Detectives were called in to investigate.”

“A further interview with Artasia Viges revealed the terrible truth; there was no abduction and the young child was left unattended on the main road and was allowed to run away at night,” police said. What began as disagreements between mother and child became a strange reaction to the child’s tantrums.”

When Viges stopped the car, the child — “apparently not properly restrained” — jumped out of the car before it stopped, causing injuries to the child’s knees, police said.

“The mother decided to leave the child outside the car, allowing him to run away in the dark along the main roads,” the law enforcement officers continued. “The mother admitted to detectives that she did not try to follow him and eventually lost sight of him.

Viguez was subsequently arrested and the incident is currently under investigation.
