UCSB teams work with students, neighbors and local agencies to ensure a safe and peaceful Halloween

Continuing its successful Halloween partnership, UC Santa Barbara is once again working with students and the wider community to develop a series of rules, regulations, safety enhancements and alternative activities from October 25th through November 4th.

The annual alternative event will be held at the Recreation Center on Friday, October 25 at 9:00 p.m. Hallowheelsfeaturing roller skating, pumpkin painting, silent disco, photo booth, costume contests, eSports, free food and candy, scary movie, s’mores, cornhole and more. The event is a collaboration between the Department of Recreation, Health and Wellness, Life of the Party, Gauchos for Recovery and Woodstocks Pizza.

The Associated Students Program Board is once again presenting its popular student-only concert event, Deleriusfeaturing two acts over two nights, Thursday, October 24th and Friday, October 25th at the Thunderdome.

Off campus, Isla Vista Parks and Recreation Area (IVRPD) is sponsoring a Haunted Pumpkin Patch at Anisq’Oyo Park from 7:00pm to 11:00pm on Wednesday, October 30th and Thursday, October 31st. IVRPD is also bringing back a silent disco for the same two nights at the Cool Corner near Embarcadero Hall, sponsored by the AS Program Board. This free community event will also include carnival games, a photo booth and a “Bargain Passport” with coupons for local businesses. The first evening offers screenings of classic black-and-white silent films; on the second night, IVRPD partners with the UCSB Fashion Club for a $750 grand prize costume contest.

Besides, Isla Vista Community Services District (IVCSD) now sponsors safety stations staffed by UCSB Community Service Officers from 8:00 pm to 2:00 am every Friday and Saturday at Little Acorn Park and Window to the Sea Park.

All events aim to keep Halloween local. The campus continues to work on these efforts with a variety of community partners, including IVCSD, IVRPD, Isla Vista Foot Patrol, the City of Goleta and Santa Barbara County.

As in past years, guests are not allowed to stay overnight in UC Santa Barbara dormitories or university-owned apartments (except family housing) from 5:00 PM Friday, October 25th through 8:00 AM Sunday, November 3rd .

Campus officials have been working diligently to develop a parking plan to help ensure the safety of students, faculty, staff and others who are authorized to use campus facilities during Halloween. Additional measures will be taken to prevent unauthorized use of campus parking spaces to access Isla Vista during Halloween.

Beginning Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26, the campus will be closed to overnight visitor parking. Campus checkpoints will be in place beginning at 5:00 PM on Friday and will be staffed as needed throughout the weekend to ensure campus safety and security. Unauthorized vehicles will be denied access without prior permission.

All vehicles must be registered with a valid Reserved, A, B, C, H or Annual Night & Weekend ePermit to park on campus overnight on the above dates.

Short-term ePermits, including daily, 15-day overnight and weekend and visitor permits issued at the TPS Permit Portal, Permit Points and ParkMobile, expire at midnight on Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26. These permits are not valid for overnight parking. Unauthorized vehicles parked overnight on campus are subject to a $300 fine and impoundment of the vehicle at the owner’s expense. Enhanced parking restrictions will be lifted from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to allow for normal campus operations.

As in previous years, a number of campus parking spaces will be closed and access will be restricted to ensure increased security measures.

The festival ordinance, which prohibits loud music in residences, will be in effect from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. daily from Saturday, October 26 through Monday, November 4. Violation of this ordinance may result in fines of up to $500. The special event right-of-way ordinance, which prohibits attracting a crowd that blocks a street or participating in an event that blocks a street, also carries fines of up to $500.
