Biden invites Trump to the White House to discuss the transition

Incumbent US President Joe Biden is expected to host President-elect Donald Trump at the White House on November 13 to discuss the transition of administrations, a spokesman said.

“He (Biden) believes in norms, he believes in our institution, he believes in a peaceful transfer of power,” White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre told reporters on November 12.

“It’s what’s normal. It’s what’s supposed to happen.”

Because Biden and Trump hold radically different views on many domestic and foreign policies, they may discuss topics other than the transition, such as the continuation and importance of U.S. military aid to Ukraine.

Trump’s support for Ukraine hangs in the air analysts and politicians try to gauge his plans to bring peace to Ukraine, as he promised to end the war within “24 hours” of his re-election, without revealing details.

Outgoing President Biden viewed Russia’s war against Ukraine as a defining element of his presidency, gradually providing Ukraine with more military equipment as Kyiv emerged victorious from the first battle of Kyiv in April 2022.

Since then, he has green-lighted and pushed numerous military aid packages through Congress. Neither is the Biden administration received criticism because of its allegedly unwieldy and disjointed approach to support, which may have contributed to Ukraine’s increasing failures on the battlefield.

Although Trump’s 24-hour deadline has passed, the incoming president has provided few details on how he plans to follow through on his peace pledge.

Numerous reports over the past year have given some clues about his plans to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. The very nature of such a quick agreement indicates that Ukraine is forced to give way to Russia.

In April Washington Post it was reported that Trump is pressuring Ukraine to hand over the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia occupied in 2014, and the far east of Donbas. In two months, two chief advisers Trump was offered a plan that involves ending military aid to Ukraine if it does not agree to peace talks with Russia.

newly Telegraph and The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump’s peace plan may involve placing European troops in a buffer zone in Ukraine after the current front line in Ukraine has been frozen. In exchange for ceding territory, Ukraine will receive weapons from the US and agree not to pursue its ambitions to join NATO for 20 years.

Strongly opposing Trump’s plans, President Biden has repeatedly assured Ukraine that it is their decision to start negotiations with Russia on their terms and that their territorial integrity cannot be a bargaining chip that other countries trade over their heads.

To provide Ukraine with as much support as possible before Trump takes office in January 2025, the Biden administration plans to increase US military aid to Ukraine in the final months of his term, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in Brussels on November 13.
