Russian strikes on Kyiv and central Ukraine killed 2 teenagers and injured dozens

KYIV, Ukraine — A Russian drone strike killed a teenager in Kyiv during an overnight shelling of the Ukrainian capital that lasted several hours, officials said, while four people were reported killed and at least 21 wounded in a rocket attack in central Ukraine.

According to Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko, a drone crashed into a 25-story apartment building on Friday evening in the west of the city, killing a 15-year-old girl and injuring five others. Emergency services said 100 people had been evacuated after the impact, which damaged several apartments on the upper floors of the building.

Serhiy Popko, who heads the local military administration of Kyiv, said that Russian troops had been pounding the city for 7 and a half hours during the night. Air-raid sirens wailed all night, and Popko announced that Ukrainian air defense had shot down up to a dozen Russian drones.

Also on Friday evening, a Russian rocket hit a residential area in the center of the city of Dnipro, killing a 14-year-old teenager and three other people, regional governor Serhii Lysak said, adding that at least 21 people were injured, including an 8-year-old and teenagers The wife and teenage daughter of a local police officer were pulled dead from the rubble, police said. As a result of the attack, more than a dozen residential buildings, private houses and a medical institution were damaged.

A man and a woman were killed after a Russian drone dropped explosives on a village in southern Kherson region, local prosecutors said, while a 61-year-old woman was killed in shelling in the northeast.

In the Kyiv region, which surrounds the capital but is not part of it, debris from a drone attack killed a woman, the State Emergency Service reported. It is noted that a 13-year-old boy was wounded elsewhere in the region.
