It’s official: Boys season 5 on the way, ready to wrap up Prime Video’s blockbuster superhero satire in explosive style. Even before The Boys Season 4 finale dropped, it was already clear that this was the penultimate season. Season 5 has now been confirmed as the series’ final chapter, and all signs point to a grand exit. And while it’s still early in development, showrunner Eric Kripke hinted at what’s to come, taking fans through the “last ten pages” of twisted superhero carnage.

But with The Boys, no finale is ever rushed. The fourth season had a massive 21% spike in viewers over its predecessor and wasn’t shy about examining the political landscape of 2024. The final episode even required a last-minute title change, abandoning the planned title after a high-profile assassination attempt. Despite the unexpected drama, Season 4 left fans hungry for the final round, ready for Season 5 to wrap things up.

Eric Kripke knows how things end

Regarding season 5, Eric Kripke didn’t leave much for speculation. “I know that moment,” Kripke said, “when the title card comes up … and you see where everybody is.” His original plan was for The Boys to run for five seasons; this vision remained intact. After all, with only eight episodes left, the showrunner has made it clear that he’s focusing on giving the main cast a real ending, with characters like the Butcher and Starlight the main focus as the series wraps up.

The writer’s room for season 5 began about five weeks before season 4 aired on June 13, and according to Kripke, fans will have to wait about two years before the final episodes air. Season 5 is slated to premiere in mid-2026 in that timeline, fitting perfectly with The Boys’ typical production pace. As Kripke himself said, “I know how I want this to end,” so we’re in for a suitably explosive series finale.

Jensen Ackles as a soldier and new faces in the cast

Jensen Ackles‘ Boy Soldier is confirmed for a full return, now as a series regular, and we’re talking big things. A hit with fans, Ackles brings a unique, gritty vibe to the show’s dynamic cast, including Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Anthony Starr, Erin Moriarty and Chas Crawford. The fourth season saw the long-awaited debut of Jeffrey Dean Morgan, as well as cameos from Tilda Swinton and Will Ferrell, a sign of just how star-studded the final chapter could be.

There’s also more star power. The Boys newcomer David Diggs joins the cast alongside Stranger Things’ Mason Dye as Bombsight, one of history’s oldest rivals. Dye’s character may even make it into Vought Rising, an upcoming spin-off series where Ackles is also expected to reprise his role. The door to Voth’s wild universe is wide open, and Ackles dropped some serious hints during Comic-Con on July 26, where he announced a spin-off with returning star Aya Cash.

A fitting farewell — and a new beginning

Although Season 5 marks the end, the Boys universe will continue with several spin-offs, including Vought Rising, led by Boys executive producer Paul Graylong. Ackles and Cash will lead the new series, which promises to delve deeper into Vought’s influence on the Soups — and yes, there will be plenty more political digs and scathing satire. Another spinoff, The Boys: Mexico, is also in development, with Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal set to executive produce and possibly appear.

Meanwhile, Gen V, the student spin-off about young, hormone-driven Supers, has been renewed for a second season. The show, originally led by Chance Perdomo, will continue even after his tragic death, and the producers will honor Andre Anderson Perdomo’s role by choosing not to renew it.

The fifth season will end The Boys, but the legacy of Kripke’s harsh, unpretentiously wild world is far from over.
