Where are the lights burning? – NBC New York

At least five wildfires were burning actively in New Jersey Saturday morning as gusty winds, dry brush and low humidity created conditions for the fires to intensify.

New York, Connecticut, Long Island, the Hudson Valley and parts of New Jersey remain under a red flag warning until Saturday at 6 p.m.

Air quality in much of northern New Jersey is now considered “moderate,” but it has dropped to “unhealthy for sensitive populations” in parts of Hudson and Bergen counties. according to the EPA.

The newest wildfire in New Jersey is the Cannonball 3 Fire, burning in Pompton Lakes in Passaic County. The fire is reported to be 100 acres and zero percent contained New Jersey Wildfire Service.

The Cannonball 3 fire is threatening 55 structures and has closed one lane of Interstate 287. No one has been evacuated.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and firefighters expect to release more information Saturday afternoon.

Where are the fires burning in New Jersey right now?

As of Saturday morning, these are some of the areas where wildfires are active:

  • Englewood Rocks, Bergen County
  • Pompton Lakes, Passaic County
  • Jackson Township, Ocean County
  • Evesham and Voorhees Townships, Burlington and Camden Counties
  • Glassborough, Gloucester County

The National Weather Service the relative humidity listed is only 21 percent, and any fire that develops can quickly ignite and spread.

Smoke Warning for New Jersey

Fire officials said New Jersey residents can expect smoke in the air for at least a few days.

Residents should exercise caution when outside and limit exercise in smoky areas due to poor air quality.
