ITV the audience was shocked after hearing Delia Ballmer recount her harrowing experience escaping a serial killer.

For the past week, the four-part series Until I Kill You tells a true story of former agency nurse Delia, who discovers in the 1990s that her boyfriend of three years, John Sweeney, has a much darker side.

Based on her 2017 memoir, Living With a Serial Killer. Anna Maxwell Martin from Batkivshchyna starred as Delia and Vigil actor Sean Evans as serial killer John.

This happened after the start of the couple’s relationship after meeting in a pub in London in 1991 until Delia tried to leave him after he became increasingly abusive, until John attacked her using an axe.

After the crime drama series aired, the broadcaster also aired a documentary in which Delia spoke on camera about her ordeal.

After explaining the details of their relationship, Delia showed the camera the exact bed where her partner attacked her after she told him she wanted to end their relationship.

“These ropes came out and then he tied them to the bed and then he tied my ankles and grabbed my arms and held me down,” she recalled.

“At first I tried and then I realized I better not fight because he fixed it and if I tried it got tighter.”

Sweeney then pulled out a knife and a gun hidden by the bed and began asking her about her ex-boyfriends.

“He threatened to cut my tongue out if I screamed,” she said.

Sweeney then admitted to killing his ex-girlfriend and two men several years ago, “cutting up their bodies and dumping them in a canal.”

After hearing the disturbing details, viewers were surprised, and some were also shocked, that Delia decided to keep the furniture she was attacked on.

“Wow… Delia still has all the furniture and the bed that monster made (and apparently the mattress). Lord! I would burn a lot,” Nikola wrote on X.

“I’m surprised Delia still has all the furniture John made,” shared user Flopsy.

“I don’t understand why the real Delia Ballmer keeps anything that relates to John Sweeney – the table he set, the bed he tied her to, his drawings… I’d like to get rid of it completely!” Added DVDFever.

Many others also praised her bravery as they recounted their sad experiences.

“God, this is terrible. Delia, you are a strong, brave woman and I am so glad you have found a happy future after this hell,” Charlotte wrote.

Watch Till I Kill You: A True Story. It’s so incredible what a person can handle. I feel so bad to see Delia go through her hell again,” Jackie shared.

“What a very brave and resilient woman Delia Ballmer is,” added Laura.

After spending a week as a hostage and being subjected to numerous attacks, Delia was released by Sweeney.

However, her life was put in danger again when he attacked her a second time after he was released on bail.

After being rescued by a neighbor who hit Sweeney over the head with a baseball bat, Delia spent months in hospital recovering from his horrific injuries while he was on the run.

As one officer recalled in the documentary, they discovered “a bag filled with the items he would need to dispose of Delia’s body,” which included blades, rubber gloves, rope, a tarp and duct tape.

Initially holding Delia hostage, Sweeney confessed to the murder of his former partner Melissa Halstead, whose dismembered body was found in a canal in Netherlands in 1990.

After he escaped in 1994, he was arrested six years later in 2001 and sentenced to nine years for the attempted murder of Delia.

He also killed Paula Fields a year earlier and was eventually convicted of her and Halstead’s murders in 2011.

According to the BBC, authorities believe he may have killed three more women between 1970 and 1990.

The 67-year-old former carpenter is still in prison.

Until I Kill You and Until I Kill You: The Real Story air on ITVX.
