Richmond Hill Police, Brian Co. Sheriff’s Office are investigating the drowning

RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (WTOC) – Authorities are investigating a drowning on the Tivoli River near Belfast Keller Road in Richmond Hill.

The drowning is said to have occurred near the Tivoli River Pier and Kayak Launch.

Richmond Hill Police confirmed they are assisting the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.

Four men were on the wharf catching crabs when the crab trap escaped.

The man jumped into the river to retrieve the trap, but could not swim now. The other three people were also unable to swim and called 911.

The team of divers tried to carry out cardiopulmonary resuscitation of the victim, but, unfortunately, without success.

The victim’s name has not been released at this time. Authorities say the victim is active duty military.
