A blind puppy was found tied to a poll “begging for help” in Florida as the state braced for the imminent onslaught of Hurricane Milton.

The harrowing ordeal of the puppy, affectionately named Ginger Spice, came to light after Linus and Friends, a nonprofit animal rescue organization in New York and Central Florida, shared her story with TikTok under the pen linusrescue.

According to Linus & Friends, Ginger Spice was found “skinny, sick and begging for help” tied to a pole during Hurricane Milton.

“It looks like she was born blind,” said Jen Ligety of Linus & Friends Newsweek. “We have no idea why she was tied up and left there. Maybe the abandoned person thought she wouldn’t survive anyway.”

Hurricane Milton devastated large parts of Florida multiple deaths have been reported right after that.

Several pets faced the full brunt of the hurricane. One woman described this moment her cat blew itonly for things to take an unexpected turn.

In another case, there was a dog left to his own devices as the hurricane approached.

Ginger Spice would no doubt be scared to death, unsure of her surroundings, but unable to flee to any shelter.

Ligety believes whoever left her there “probably” assumed she would fall victim to a hurricane.

Fortunately, this was not the case. Someone did come to Ginger Spice’s rescue, and she ended up in Linus and friends.

Ligety described the mixed emotions that greeted Ginger Spice at the shelter. While she was “upset” that someone could do something like this to an innocent dog, she was more “just happy that it was saved.”

Unfortunately, says Ligety, while this may be at the extreme end of the scale, abandonments like this are becoming an all-too-familiar problem.

“Unfortunately, more people are surrendered than adopted, and people are abandoning pets because shelters and rescue centers are full,” she said.

In a video posted on TikTok, Linus and friends promised to help Ginger Spice find “the peaceful life she deserves.” After treatment at the vet, Ginger Spice spent time with her foster family.

Then the best thing happened.

“The ginger spice was accepted,” Ligety confirmed. “She moved to upstate New York to live with a new owner who already has another blind pit bull.”

Ligety is relieved to see that Ginger Spice has found a happy forever home, and she has a message for whoever left her there on that pole when the hurricane was approaching.

“There are always better options than tying her to a pole before a thunderstorm,” she said. “Try to get help, and if you really have no choice but to leave her before the hurricane, at least leave her somewhere inside with food and water and let someone know where she is.”
