A Toledo restaurant was targeted by a robber during the attack

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Security footage shows a man on a bicycle leaving the Smokin’ Olive Deli on South Detroit Avenue in Toledo at 3:35 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

A few hours later, Michelle Ryan, who owns the restaurant, got a call from her security company. She ran over and saw that the glass door of her restaurant had been smashed with a brick.

“I came here so quickly in my pajamas and slippers and just stopped there. I start hyperventilating. I know it’s just a door, but I thought, “How could someone do that?” I was in shock,” explained Ryan.

According to Ryan, whoever broke the glass got inside and stole a drawer from the cash register. This drawer was full of cash.

“My main concern is, ‘Oh, he saw the cash in my drawer.’ He’ll come back thinking, oh, they keep cash in a drawer, but we don’t keep cash in a drawer anymore. We learned our lesson,” Ryan said.

A closer look at the video revealed that the suspect was riding a bicycle with a box.

“You can see in the video that he had a drawer in the basket on his bike and he just rode through the neighborhood,” said Ryan, who hopes someone can help identify the robber.

In the meantime, Ryan said the community is rallying behind her 5-year-old business.

“I just want to thank the Beverly area because they, I could start crying, they were. It was unreal. I knew people liked us, but this week I realized how much we are loved and they don’t want me to go anywhere. They were all worried that I was going to pack my bags and go somewhere else. I’m not leaving,” Ryan concluded.

If you have any information about the break-in or the suspect, Ryan asks that you contact Toledo Police.
