One dead, four injured as a result of a boat explosion near the Dania Beach pier

One person died in an explosion on a 50-foot vessel at a marina in Denmark Beach.

According to Broward Sheriff Fire-Rescue (BSFR), crews responded to the scene Thursday around 4:30 p.m. Upon arrival, units found the 50-foot vessel engulfed in flames and heavy smoke.

The BSFR said the explosion occurred during refueling, leading to a massive fire on the boat.

50 firefighters from BSFR and Hollywood Fire Rescue launched the fire attack. BSFR managed to rescue four people from the burning vessel, but one was declared dead at the scene.

All four victims received significant injuries similar to an explosion. Two people were taken by ambulance to Broward Health in Fort Lauderdale, while the other two were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.

BSFR says it is unclear if any marina workers were injured.

The State Fire Service is currently determining the cause of the fire.
