9-1-1’s Oliver Stark and Ryan Guzman Talk About Buddy’s ‘Risky’ and Touching Final Moment

9-1-1’s Oliver Stark and Ryan Guzman Talk About Buddy’s ‘Risky’ and Touching Final Moment

Episode 6 of Season 8 of the ABC drama ended with a silent scene between Buck and Eddie — or, as fans know them, “Buddy.”

Friends are there for each other in good times and bad – even if one of them doesn’t have pants on.

Thursday night’s episode 9-1-1 fell down many shockers (and jaws). Among them is Maddy (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and chimney (Kenneth Choi) are expecting a second child; boyfriends Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) and Buck (Oliver Stark) realizes that they both dated Abby (Season 1 star Connie Britton) and then disperse; and then there’s that almost shot-for-shot homage to Tom Cruise Risky business dance for eddie (Ryan Guzman) finally shaves his mustache.

Entertainment Weekly more about these important points later. But one of the most touching moments of Season 8 Episode 6, “The Confession,” came in the final moments when an elated Eddie (still wearing his Tom Cruise cosplay) silently welcomes a despondent Buck to his home for a beer.

related: No, 9-1-1 the team didn’t use real bees for the “bee-nado” — but she still got stung by the dead!

“I think the power of that scene and the power of their bond is that they don’t have to speak,” Stark tells EW of the “Buddy” friendship. “They’re both going through very different things and they’re both dealing with them in different ways, but they know they can do it together and that there’s a source of strength between them. It’s a safe space they create for each other.”

“Buck’s obviously a real mood killer because Eddie’s so over the top and then Mr. Doom and Gloom comes along,” Stark continues, though his on-screen co-star disagrees: “I don’t even know if they pick up on each other’s energies “, Guzman says. “They just want to be around someone they know, trust, feel comfortable with. It’s a moment of true brotherhood.”

And like real brothers, one does not even ask why the other is not wearing pants.

“He just whizzes past me. I’m in mine Choni and I’m just like, “Okay, beer?” Sure, it’s fine, whatever,” Guzman says with a laugh. “Yeah, it’s a good scene.”

“The idea that Buck just walks in without even asking what Eddie’s up to, just hands him a beer, and these two guys just sit there because he just needs his friend’s support . . .” 9-1-1 co-creator and showrunner Tim Miner adds, pausing before continuing, “They don’t need to talk. I think their friendship is like, “Oh, you need me to be there for you.” .'”

“Honestly, I don’t think they talk for long. I don’t think they need it,” Stark adds about how much he thinks the characters are sitting in silence. “That’s not the point. The thing is, I need someone right now. And I trust you probably more than anyone at this point, so thank you for being here.”
