Prosecutors say US citizen was ready to flee – FBC News

Prosecutors in the case of Bradley Dawson, who allegedly killed his wife during their honeymoon at the Turtle Island resort, made their closing arguments today.

Dawson is accused of beating his wife Kristy Chan to death in 2022, just two days after they checked in on their honeymoon.

Prosecutor Alvin Singh said Dawson was ready to flee the scene after the fatal attack.

Singh told the Lautoka High Court that evidence showed Dawson inflicted serious injuries on his wife, leading to her death, and then tried to flee the island.

Singh highlighted key pieces of evidence, including the fact that Dawson left their home in the middle of the night after the alleged assault, taking their personal belongings, including cards and $1,093 in cash, with him.

According to him, it can be concluded from the defendant’s actions that he knew about his wife’s death and had every intention of escaping – not only from the scene, but also from the country.

Singh also described how Dawson used a kayak to travel to the nearby village of Matakavalevu, further indicating his intention to escape.

The prosecution argued that Dawson’s conduct in the immediate aftermath of the alleged crime was inconsistent with a crime of passion, instead pointing to premeditation and an attempt to flee jurisdiction.

Earlier in the hearing, the court heard Chan suffered serious injuries in what the prosecution described as a brutal attack.

The defense is now presenting its closing arguments.
