A natural gas leak is said to be the cause of the house explosion in South Jordan

A natural gas leak is said to be the cause of the house explosion in South Jordan

Firefighters have identified a natural gas leak as the cause of an explosion in South Jordan that killed a 15-year-old boy.

However, the cause of the leak has not been established. Investigators are working to find out and hope to receive information in the near future, officials said.

Neighbors and loved ones are coming together to support the grieving family as authorities investigate the cause of the explosion.

Blue ribbons line the neighborhood in support of the family, as the victim’s favorite color was blue.

CJ Mansfield, a neighbor who was one of the first to learn of the explosion, recalls that his family reported the incident at home.

“They just heard a loud bang and the house shook,” Mansfield said.

When he got home, he described the scene as chaotic.

Despite the close proximity to the blast, Mansfield’s own home sustained only minimal damage.

PRELIMINARY REPORTING:

“We are very lucky,” he said.

The explosion prompted an ongoing investigation by gas and fire crews who were at the scene all day Thursday.

Mansfield thanked the emergency response teams.

“We’ve got a couple of towns helping out here, the firefighters have been great, the first responders, the cleanup crews have been great,” he said.

Neighbors, although shocked by the tragedy, supported the injured family.

“It was really cool to see everyone rally around each other,” Mansfield said.

AND A GoFundMe page has been created for the family, issued by South Jordan Mayor Dawn Ramsey.

The cause of the explosion has not been determined, and authorities have not released additional details. Firefighters are continuing to investigate and are expected to provide an update in the coming days.

South Jordan said it is in contact with the Jordan school district because the boy who died was a Bingham student. They will provide resources and support to students and families affected by this loss.

While cleanup efforts continue, the community remains united in supporting the grieving family.

“When you lose a child, there’s nothing that can fix it, my heart just breaks for her,” Mansfield said.
