A 55-year-old man was hit and killed by a car in Escondido

A 55-year-old man was struck and killed by a car early Wednesday in Escondido, police officials said.

The incident was reported just before 5:30 a.m. on Via Rancho Parkway near Westfield North County Mall.

Police who arrived at the scene found a man undergoing CPR. Officers continued to perform CPR, but the man was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the man was crossing the street when he was hit by a car. The driver of the car remained at the scene, and neither drugs nor alcohol were likely factors.

The pedestrian’s name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
