The FBI is releasing few details about a “shooting incident” that law enforcement said happened Thursday afternoon in Ryegate.

One person was taken into custody, the agency said in a statement, although it did not release the person’s name or the charges, if any, he may face.

The incident, according to the FBI, occurred at 1:15 p.m. Thursday on Highway 5 in Ryegate, “an alleged assault on a federal officer (US Marshal).”

The one-paragraph statement said the shooting was “under investigation” but did not say who fired the shots or if anyone was injured.

“To preserve the integrity and capabilities of the investigation, we will decline to provide additional details at this time,” the FBI said in a statement.

Sarah Ruane, a spokeswoman for the FBI in Albany, did not immediately return phone and email messages Friday.

John Curtis, the chief deputy U.S. marshal in Vermont, declined to answer a series of questions about the incident Friday morning.

“We have no comment at this time,” Curtis responded in an email.
