Oregon nursing home sued over patient’s death, pleads guilty to manslaughter

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Lucy Garcia’s family is suing a nursing home The Lucas County Coroner said that led to her death.

According to court documents filed Oct. 23, the lawsuit names Arbors at Oregon, as well as its parent company, three health care providers and their associated companies.

Garcia died on July 2, 2024, after spending years in the facility recovering from a stroke that required around-the-clock care.

The defendants are charged with medical negligence/negligence, wrongful death, nursing home resident violations, civil conspiracy and fraud.

The lawsuit seeks compensation for Garcia’s pain and suffering, as well as punitive and exemplary damages.

Numerous family members of former patients at the facility shared their stories with 13 Action News after Garcia’s death, it was ruled a homicide.
