In May 2022, Canals caused panic in the city of Omaha when he was hired by Catholic Charities to conduct an active shooting at the organization’s building near 92nd and Bedford Streets.

Police discovered Channels had been firing blank rounds from a handgun as part of a training exercise, posing people as victims throughout the area to make the scene visible to employees inside.

However, investigators heard that Channels told Catholic Charities that it would be best if no one told workers it was an exercise so they would feel in real danger.

Authorities were not informed of the exercise and did not contact Chenles before the exercise began.

Canals was not immediately arrested for the incident, but instead was taken into custody just nine days later in a separate case where he was accused of sexual violence against a 14-year-old girl.
