Police say ankle watchers link teenagers to armed carjacking in Boca Raton after chase on I-95

After a car chase and the story of their ankle monitors, two Broward County teenagers have been arrested in connection with Boca Raton carjacking on Thursday afternoon.

The Boca Raton Police Department (BRPD) said Kevin McCall, 19, and a 17-year-old boy are accused of carjacking a woman at gunpoint. Two teenagers allegedly approached a woman sitting in her 2024 Mercedes AMG on SW 18th Street around 2:27 p.m., police said. Armed with a handgun, one of the suspects ordered the victim out of his Mercedes before fleeing eastbound on 18th Street SW.

Fortunately, the victim was not injured during the incident, the police said.

According to investigators, surveillance video showed the suspect fleeing to Broward County. Boca Raton detectives alerted the Broward Sheriff’s Office, and the two agencies worked together to identify the suspects. Not far from the scene of the abduction, one of the suspects was seen getting out of a Honda Accord a few minutes before the crime. Detectives were able to obtain the license plate of the Honda Accord.

A Honda Accord was seen traveling on I-95 shortly before 6 p.m. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled and the passenger was seen throwing a firearm out the window, the press release said. Shortly thereafter, five passengers exited the Honda on foot. All five were detained by the BSO and arrested on various charges.

Of the five people in the car, two teenagers were linked to a carjacking in Boca Raton.

According to BRPD, Kevin McCall was identified as one of the occupants. He was wearing the same clothes described by the kidnapping victim and was found with the key fob from the stolen Mercedes in his pocket, investigators said. In addition, McCall was wearing an ankle monitor, and the tracking history showed that he was at the scene of the carjacking.

Police said the 17-year-old driver of the Honda Accord was also implicated in the abduction because of a history of tracking the ankle monitor, which put him in the immediate area of the crime. The stolen Mercedes was later found using vehicle tracking software.

On Friday, Boca Raton police detectives obtained arrest warrants for McCall and Graham for the carjacking with firearms. Both suspects remain in custody.

Anyone with information about this ongoing investigation is urged to call Detective Dale Graham at (561) 620-6175.
