Early in the morning, the police detained a drunk driver with five times the legal limit

A man who was caught driving with more than five-and-a-half times the legal limit for alcohol before 9am this morning has been remanded in custody.

The 56-year-old from Kelso was pulled over by police on the Batman Highway after several members of the public called 000 to report his “characteristic” driving.

He reportedly blew a .276 during a roadside breathalyzer test and was arrested.

The man was later released on bail and is due to appear in court in December.
