Children born in 2025 can expect ‘special gift’ as Singapore marks SG60: Indrani

SINGAPORE. Married couples expecting children in 2025 can look forward to receiving a special gift for their little ones as the nation celebrates 60 years of independence.

A minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Indrani Raja, hinted at the gift on Facebook on November 5, but gave no other details.

Ms Indrani, who is also Second Minister for Finance and National Development, said Singapore will celebrate SG60 in 2025. The landmark year will be a celebration of shared Singaporean values, including an “undefinable sense of family” despite Singapore’s different races, religions and backgrounds, she added.

“For Singapore to remain strong and prosper in the years to come, we will need more Singaporean families and of course more Singaporean babies to write the next chapter of our Singaporean story,” she said.

“As a signal of the importance of marriage and parenthood to our future, as we move towards the 60th anniversary of our statehood, we are planning a special gift for our SG60 children next year.”

More details will be released later, she said.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong quietly announced the SG60 celebrations at the People’s Association event the day before, where he expressed his hope that “SG60 will be a time for all of us to renew our commitment to Singapore and lead our country forward to a better and brighter shared future.”

With the theme “Building Our Singapore Together” throughout 2025, there will be programs to mark this milestone year, such as Racial and Religious Harmony Month, the Singapore Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka and the Citizens First Million Project, a founding initiative. ‘ A memorial to reflect the stories of the generation of citizens that founded the nation.
