Brewers infielder projected to leave Milwaukee to reach million-plus deal

The Milwaukee Brewers expect to need a replacement at shortstop for the 2025 campaign if Willie Adames leaves, but another infield spot could also be open.

The Brewers may have to find a replacement for the slugger, who reportedly could look for a home elsewhereif he believes he can get a bigger deal.

“Hoskins signed a two-year, $34 million deal with Milwaukee last winter and can opt out after this season.” The Athletic’s Jim Bowden wrote Thursday morning. “He will need to sign another short-term contract to try and rebuild his value. Best team fits: Brewers, Mariners, Twins.”

In 131 games this season, Hoskins is hitting .214 with 40 extra-base hits, including 26 home runs, 82 RBI and a .722 OPS (98 OPS+).

Although Milwaukee has been listed as a suitor, it’s unlikely that Hoskins will opt out of his contract in anticipation of a bigger contract with the Brewers. The 31-year-old has had a down year, albeit in his first season back from a torn ACL, but he would be wise to accept his current contract if he wants to stay put.

If a first baseman believes he can get more money, he will likely have a better chance of getting it from another organization, but a raise is not guaranteed in the free agent market.
