Former CBS reality host found unconscious and rushed to hospital: Details on Austin Matelson’s condition

Professional wrestler and former reality show host Austin Matelson is recovering from a serious health scare. Matelson, who appeared on CBS’ Big Brother Season 17, was hospitalized on Sept. 27 after his fiancee found him after collapsing, according to Combat.

The diagnosis at the time was that the 39-year-old, who wrestles in All Elite Wrestling as Killswitch/Luchasaurus, had pneumonia in both lungs. It is reported that he was “left for several days” before the final damage to his lungs. After the examination, the doctors connected him to oxygen.

A fight watcher Brian Alvarez (transcription @DrainBamager at X) would later report that Matelson was recovering but had a “high risk of relapse.” In addition to the pneumonia, doctors discovered “calcification of the heart valve and his body does not produce iron.”

Alvarez added, “It’s bad enough that he’s out of the hospital, I guess, but he still needs oxygen.”

There is no timetable for Matelson’s return to the ring. He was heavily featured in AEW programming prior to his illness, prominently featured as a villain’s enforcer Christian Cage and the Patriarchal stable. He is a former AEW TNT Champion, AEW World Tag Team Champion, and AEW World Trios Champion. Early in his AEW run, he was known as a member of the Jurassic Express alongside ‘Jungle Boy’ Jack Perry and Marco Trick. Matelson also briefly competed in WWE under the name Judas Devlin.
