Man charged after allegedly killing bear while driving drunk in New Hampshire

A Massachusetts man has been charged with driving under the influence in New Hampshire after he allegedly struck and killed a bear Sunday night.

Timothy Harrigan, 30, of Leominster, was charged with driving under the influence, driving while intoxicated and an open container violation. in accordance to police in Hollis, New Hampshire.

Police said a bear was reported hit by a car on Broad Street near Pine Hill Road around 6:15 p.m. Sunday. The bear was found dead on the spot.

“While speaking with Harrigan, officers observed signs of impairment and conducted further investigation,” police said.

Harrigan was taken into custody. At the time of the crash, his blood alcohol level was 0.17, twice the legal limit, police said.

Harrigan was released on bond and will return for arraignment in Nashua’s 9th District Court.

The person Harrigan arranged to pick him up from the station, a woman from Nashua, was driving with a suspended license and suspended registration, police said. She was issued a summons for these violations.
