The man leads the deputies in pursuit, the car flies into the air

INDEPENDENCE CO., Ark. (KAIT) – Deputies have arrested a Cave City man after they say he led them on a high-speed chase that sent his car flying.

On Sunday, Nov. 3, Independence County Sergeant Zachary Spohr was driving on School Road when he saw a dark-colored vehicle drive to the left of the center lane and turn into the driveway in front of him.

The incident report states that Spore asked Deputy Cheyanne Mallory to check on the driver.

Deputy Mallory activated her hazard lights when she saw the vehicle nearly hit Spohr’s patrol truck.

The incident report states the driver was driving through a cemetery on Cemetery Road.

The chase continued when the driver swerved left of the center lane into oncoming traffic at a high rate of speed, in what deputies described as a “disregard for human life.” At that point, the car began to show “a large amount of smoke.”

During the deputies’ attempt to stop the car, the suspect drove into a ditch and drove around the patrolmen. Deputies set up spikes at the intersection of Brustrom Lane and North Hill, but the suspect drove through ditches to avoid them.

According to the incident report, the vehicle continued to travel at a high rate of speed entering West 6th Street, causing the vehicle to become airborne.

The driver stopped at the intersection of 5th Street and Vine Street. That’s when deputies pulled Rodney Vance, 48, of Cave City, from the vehicle and placed him in restraints.

While searching the vehicle, deputies found a pill bottle with several different medications behind the driver’s seat.

Vance was booked into the Independence County Detention Center on multiple charges including hit and run, reckless driving, failure to wear a seat belt and making an improper turn in addition to several other charges.
