Gujarat: 6 arrested in Bharuch for stealing a beef cow and slaughtering it for meat

Six people have been arrested in Gujarat’s Bharuch district for allegedly stealing a fat cow, butchering it and eating its meat, officials said on Monday.

The incident took place on Diwali (October 31) when Kamlesh Ahir, who owned the cow, tied it to a tree near his house in Exal village as it was struggling to walk. Later that evening, Kamlesh discovered that his cow was missing and lodged a complaint with the local police.

In his complaint, Kamlesh stated that he and his father, while searching for the cow, received information that the animal had been taken by people from a neighboring village. After visiting the village, they found the remains of animals, which were handed over to the police for examination.

Kamlesh identified the suspects as Sarfaraz Mansuri, Waseem Mansuri, Mubarak Mansuri, Soheb Mansuri and Rizwan Mansuri from a nearby village. He also claimed that one Ajay Rathod was helping to transport the cow.

After the complaint, all six accused were arrested by the local police. Bharucha Deputy Superintendent of Police told India Today TV that the accused had been involved in thefts in the past and the motive for this incident was reportedly to slaughter and consume cow meat.

The accused have been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyai Sangeet Act, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Gujarat Animal Preservation Act.

Further investigation into this matter is ongoing.
