Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are set to face off in the upcoming US election in November 2024, but they are facing another presidential candidate: Chase Oliver of the Libertarian Party.

Oliver, ex-Democrat, now gay running for the next president of the United States. Presidential candidate calls himself “armed and gay” for his gun rights stance.

The US Libertarian Party nominated the Georgia native at the party convention on May 26 after seven rounds of voting that lasted several hours. The party promotes personal freedom and small government.

“We did it! I am officially a presidential candidate,” he wrote on X. “But the work is not done, please help me nominate my running mate Mike ter Maat. There is no better unifying ticket in this party than this one. It is time to unite and move forward to freedom.”

It is important to note that his party rarely gained mass political popularity in previous elections. In the 2020 elections, the party won only 1.2% of the vote.

Follow Oliver’s beliefs on LGBTQ+ issues

There were queer people in the US this year came under pressure from restrictive anti-LGBTQ+ bills. Chase Oliver spoke about his stance on LGBTQ+ issues, including drag performers, “Don’t Say Gay” bills, book bans and trans athletes.

Oliver has expressed support for drag artists as part of the Libertarian Party, saying he would feel comfortable bringing his children to most shows and even comparing them to Australian children’s group The Wiggles.

In the video, he said: “A man in a dress or a woman in a suit. That’s what resistance is,” Oliver said. “It’s not inherently sexual. Sexual attraction is inherent…it certainly is, but there is also the ability to look like a man in a wig without being sexual.”

Enabled Florida “Don’t Say Gay” bills and potential bill in LouisianaOliver believes the solution could be a school choice system where money funds “students, not systems.”

“I’m someone who wants to have an inclusive education that focuses on critical thinking and age-appropriate curriculum, and I think we can definitely get that by being inclusive of LGBTQ people and families,” he said Bay Area Reporter.

“Personally, I think it’s important to recognize the existence of LGBTQ people. Personally, I think that should fall under the role of education — but that’s just me as a person… As a presidential candidate, at the end of the day, it’s up to parents and students to decide where to put their education dollars.”

Oliver also believes it’s up to schools and parents to decide whether it’s worth doing allow LGBTQ+ books in school librariesnot the government. He said the same about trans athletes competing in their approved gender categories in sports.

“Let kids be kids, and when it comes to more competitive athletics, let the individual leagues determine that, but don’t let it come from the government,” he told the paper.
