Man pleads guilty to assaulting Green Party leader Roderick O’Gorman – The Irish Times

A 45-year-old man pleaded guilty to assaulting Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Inclusion and Youth Roderick O’Gorman during a campaign rally in north-west Dublin on Saturday.

Carl Ronan, of Erris Square, Waterville, Blanchardstown, appeared before Judge David McHugh at Blanchardstown District Court charged with assaulting Mr O’Gorman in Erris Square on November 2, contrary to Section 2 of the Non-Fatal Offenses Against the Person Act.

Ronan was also charged with damaging property, namely Mr O’Gorman’s clipboard, and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behavior “with intent to cause a public disturbance or recklessly. could a breach of the peace have been caused’ on the same day.

The lawyer, Tertius von Eden, asked that the charges against his client be marked with a guilty plea.

Ronan, wearing a white T-shirt and gray sweatpants, did not speak at the brief hearing. The court learned that he works in sales, has a wife and two small children, earns about 600 euros a week and pays the mortgage.

Judge McHugh said that if found guilty, the aggrieved party has the right to be informed of the proceedings and to have the opportunity to go to court.

He said that the aggrieved party should be given the opportunity to “write a letter to the court for consideration.”

Gda Joseph Rogers, attached to Blanchardstown Garda Station, gave evidence about Ronan’s arrest, charge and caution. He has not responded to the charges brought against him, Gda Rogers said.

Gda Rogers said he had no objection to bail in the case, but asked for several conditions. He asked Ronan not to contact Mr O’Gorman – electronically or otherwise – and not to comment on the case online.

The judge released the accused on bail in the amount of 100 euros. A request for legal aid was submitted to the judge, but was denied.

Ronan was ordered to appear again at the same court on December 17.
