A new Vision Pro with an M5 chip may appear next year

Apple Vision Pro not too good, but the company hasn’t given up on it yet.

A new report from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the company is working on a new version of the mixed reality headset that has an as-yet-unreleased M5 chip inside.

Kuo also claims that Apple has delayed production of the rumored cheaper Vision Pro to “after 2027.”

“This means that Apple’s only new head-mounted display in 2025 will be the Vision Pro with an updated M5 processor,” Kuo wrote.

Apple’s current (and only) Vision Pro headset costs $3,499 all accountsdoesn’t sell too well. So why delay with a cheaper option?

According to Kuo, Apple’s problem is not so much its high price, but the lack of “successful use cases” for the headset.

“Apple’s prices in all countries are high compared to competitors, even with the HomePod mini. That’s another problem: What Apple considers “affordable” for the Vision Pro can be expensive compared to the competition. So it all boils down to whether they can deliver successful usage. ,” wrote Kuo.

For end users, this effectively means there won’t be a new Vision Pro for a while — the original Vision Pro launched in June 2023, during Apple Worldwide Developers Conferenceso it makes sense for the company to do the same with the headset’s successor. When it does arrive, it will likely have the same price as the current one, which will put it out of the budget of many potential buyers.

Kuo did not share any details about the upcoming Vision Pro. In his Enabling Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also said that Apple is working on a Vision Pro with an updated chip, but didn’t share any other details about it. According to Gurman, the company is also “seriously considering” a wearable device similar to iPhone-based smart glasses.
