If you want to dominate at close range in Black Ops 6 then you can’t go wrong with SMG, and we’ve rounded up a metaload for all the best options.

Call of Duty doesn’t have the biggest this year model range of gunsbut all those that are there serve a purpose. While assault rifles are great all-rounders, SMGs are the kings of close combat.

But with six to choose from, it can be hard to tell the strong from the weak. So here are the best SMGs in Black Ops 6.

1. Jackal PDW

The Jackal PDW was a standout weapon in the beta and remains the best SMG in Black Ops 6. While there are other weapons in this category with better range, the Jackal’s sheer power at close range puts it head and shoulders above the competition.

You can make up for its shortcomings with the long barrel and vertical foregrip, which make it more viable at mid-range and help control its recoil. The Quickdraw Grip then significantly increases ADS speed and allows you to make important first shots.

Like most submachine guns, the Jackal also skimps on ammo, so you’ll want Extended Mag 1 to ensure you can drop a few enemies before reloading.

2. Tanto .22

In many ways, Tanto .22 is the polar opposite of the PDW, having a lower rate of fire but much more damage per shot. This makes for a weapon that’s perfect for mid-range, so if you like the feel of an SMG but want to be open on big maps, this is the choice for you.

It already kills faster than many of the other guns in Black Ops 6, but the Rapid Fire mod drops the TTK speed to incredible speeds. That extra bang for your buck comes with a lot of recoil, so to counteract that we’ve opted for a vertical muzzle.

3. C9

Omnimovement is the star of Black Ops 6 and C9 goes well with it. Even though it’s the first SMG you get your hands on, its impressive mobility makes it a solid choice, whether you’re just starting out at level one or ready to reach prestige at level 55.

The C9’s superior design doubles the movement, and the ergonomic grip is the most important fixture of all. This improves ADS, slide-to-fire and dive-to-fire speed, so when combined with the No Stock option, you’ll be a blur.

4. CSR

To be honest, we have taken quite a significant step down from the top three CSR. Its bulky recoil makes it harder to control than its competition, and its low bullet velocity makes it difficult to recommend at mid-range.

That being said, it’s still extremely effective in close range combat thanks to its high speed, and you can increase your speed by equipping a boosted barrel. Then the vertical front arm and ported compensator can significantly reduce recoil to make the KSV much more competitive.

5. Compact 92

The Kompact 92 has an amazing rate of fire, the best of any pistol in Black Ops 6, but its limited durability puts it behind many others in its class. While he has one of the fastest TTKs in the game up to a certain range, his drop is dramatic.

However, with all that said, he really shines on maps like Babylon and Payback if you can keep him under control. With that in mind, the precision grip and ported compensator should be your strengths, while the long barrel improves range.

Meta analysis

The purpose of the SMG in Black Ops 6 is still being developed, but the Jackal PDW has already become the best in the early game. Despite receiving minor nerfs since the beta teardown, his close-range TTK has remained intact, so he’s still a force to be reckoned with.

That being said, the Tanto .22 is not far behind if you prefer something with more damage per shot, and the C9 is a perfect showcase for all-rounders. Also, both of these guns unlock much earlier than the Jackal, so don’t be surprised to see more of them in the early days.

Of course, each new update is set to bring tons of buffs and nerfs, as well as new guns to keep the meta fresh. So, this is the situation for now, it may change dramatically in the coming months.
