On Saturday the 2nd, a brutally mutilated body was found on the Bukhangang River in Hwacheon, Gangwon Province.

The culprit is an army officer in a unit of the Ministry of National Defense, who is soon to receive the rank of lieutenant colonel, A. He is about 30 years old.

Police arrested A., who was loitering near his residence in Seoul a day after the body was found.

He took fingerprints and DNA from the victim’s body and quickly tracked down A using a mobile phone.

According to the investigation, 33-year-old B., who died, was a temporary soldier and worked in the same unit as A.

The offense was committed on Friday, the 25th of last month, when A was being phased out and B’s term was due to expire.

During an argument in a car in a military unit, A suddenly strangled B and killed him.

He then hid it in a car and that night damaged it with a pre-prepared weapon at a construction site near the unit.

After that, he moved to the Bukhangan River in Hwacheon, Gangwon-do, where he had worked in the past, and dumped the body.

After digging up the damaged body, the stones around the river were also put in a plastic bag.

Under the updated military criminal law, the military’s civilian police crime investigation team takes responsibility for future investigations, including the motive for the crime and whether the crime was planned.

The police plan to issue a warrant for A.’s arrest on charges of murder, bodily harm, and concealment of a body.

Mr. A confessed to all the crimes.

The police plan to hold an open meeting of the commission to check whether A’s personal information will be disclosed.

Hwacheon-gun police and emergency rescue teams, which sent hundreds of people to search the Bukhangang River area after the crime was confirmed, announced that they had found all the victims’ bodies in three days.
