The cool weather is begging for a break as the Gauteng heatwave continues

Temperatures are expected to climb back into the 30s.

The heat wave that left residents struggling to stay cool over the weekend is expected to continue through at least Monday.

In several provinces across the country, including Gauteng, Limpopo, North West and the Free State, the weather was very uncomfortable as temperatures soared to 30 degrees in some areas.

Warning

The latest heatwave is expected to continue on Monday, when temperatures will climb back into the 30s, Gauteng Weather regional forecaster on X (Twitter official) warned.

“Warning: Last day of second heat wave of new season in Gauteng on Monday.

Temperatures in Johannesburg are expected to start with a low of 17°C, become very hot and reach a high of 35°C

Pretoria is also expected to be hot, with temperatures starting at a low of 20°C, becoming very hot and reaching 37°C.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) also issued a heat warning.

“A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected in central and eastern parts of North West Province and the Free State, northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo.”

Adjournment with warnings

However, some provinces should be cautious as SAWS has issued a yellow warning for severe thunderstorms that could cause infrastructure damage, travel disruptions and disruptions to municipal and essential services in KwaZulu-Natal.

“Yellow Warning Level 1: Severe thunderstorms are expected in the extreme eastern parts of the Eastern Cape, resulting in strong damaging winds and localized property damage.

“Yellow Warning Level 2: Heavy snow causing localized traffic disruption and localized loss of livestock is expected over the northern and central highlands of the Eastern Cape from Monday evening into Tuesday,” SAWS warned.

SAWS has also issued a yellow level 4 warning for heavy rain that will cause flooding of settlements, roads and property damage over the eastern parts of the Eastern Cape.

“Yellow Warning Level 1: Destructive rain causing flooding of settlements, roads, property damage is also expected along the coast and adjacent hinterland of the Eastern Cape.”
