Chicago Cubs Connected as Possible Fit for Dodgers Star Elite Pitcher

Chicago Cubs Connected as Possible Fit for Dodgers Star Elite Pitcher

The MLB offseason has begun and two relocations have already been decided Chicago Cubs.

Cody Bellinger has decided to opt out of his contract to stay with the Cubs. He will make $27.5 million for the 2025 season. Chicago too decided to divorce with veteran lefty Drew Smiley opting out of his contract.

Moving forward, the Cubs need to find a way to improve their lineup enough to become a contender.

There have been many rumors surrounding Chicago that the front office was trying to add another star pitcher. Names like Corbin Burns and Blake Snell have emerged as potential targets.

However, there is one more name to add to the mix of players the Cubs could look to if they want to add another big hitter.

Christian Papillon Cubbies crib suggested the team consider an extension Los Angeles Dodgers free agent and World Series champion Jack Flaherty.

“Flaherty has been inconsistent health-wise with 2024 being his first qualifying season since 2019. The Cubs should sign Flaherty to a short-term deal with a higher AAV. Such a deal would instill confidence in Flaherty without taking too much risk on his overall longevity.”

Now the question is, does Flaherty’s move make sense?

In a short-term deal, this would make a lot of sense. Flaherty has been an elite pitcher throughout the 2024 campaign. If he can perform at that level for Chicago, he’ll help them build perhaps the best rotation in baseball.

Flaherty will join Justin Steele, Shot Imanaga, Jameson Tailon and Javier Assad as starters. This rotation would be ridiculously good for the Cubs.

Flaherty started 28 games during the 2024 MLB season. He compiled a 13-7 record to go along with a 3.17 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 194 strikeouts, 38 walks and 162.0 innings pitched.

Those numbers were rumored to be the high-profile unit that Chicago was rumored to be looking to add.

Most fans would rather see the Cubs chase the big bat. Their mass production could use a little help.

However, the addition of an elite arm will certainly make them more dangerous.

Expect Chicago to engage in discussions with several free agents. Jed Hoyer wants to get the Cubs back to contention in 2025, and Flaherty will be a solid addition to help them achieve that goal.
