Mayor Schrevport, Chief Police announces the repression when squatting

Shreveport, Los -Angeles (KSLA) – The new order of the mayor Tom Arken was approved, and this will change how Schrevport will consider the sitting situation.

Due to the strengthening of unlawful squat and related criminal activity in Schrepoport, Mayor Arkeno proposed Decree 18 of 2025. The resolution was approved by the City Council of Schrevport.

The new resolution enters into force on April 3 and will give the law enforcement agencies additional tools for solving unauthorized employment and protection of owners and neighborhoods. The Schrevport Police (SPD) will launch an ASKBLUE operation (contacting squatters, knowing – bold legal unified efforts) within the city repression.

“Illegal squat is not just a question of property is a crisis of public safety that contributed to increased crime, drug activity and quality of life for our inhabitants,” said Mayor Arken. “Thanks to this resolution and the rapid action of the SPD, we hold a firm position against unauthorized occupation and renewal of peace and order for our neighborhoods.”

From January 2024 to mid -March 2025 SPD received more than 300 calls related to squat; Almost 40% of these cases occurred in the Highland neighborhood. Documented crimes related to these cases include unauthorized entrance, theft, difference, property damage, theft, drug activity and armed threats.

Ask blue has three phases:

  • Community involvement – SPD will start a campaign of public awareness by encouraging residents to report sites through Port City 311 or by calling SPD at (318) 673-6950.
  • Investigation and enforcement – law enforcement teams will investigate the reports and identify offenders, teach the new law skaters and offer them resources and alternatives.
  • Saturation and arrests – SPD deploys patrols to the severely affected areas, issue quotes, execute unfortunate warrants and make arrests when necessary.

“This initiative concerns the restoration of security and accountability,” said police chief Wayne Smith. “Our officers will take decisive measures to identify and eliminate squatters while working with real estate owners, community leaders and other agencies to provide a long -lasting decision. We strive to make Shrevport a safer place for everyone.”

The SPD will focus on Highland neighborhood before moving to other areas. The Department will cooperate with agencies such as code execution, animal control and local residential organizations.
