CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — A 31-year-old man faces criminal charges after a police chase ended in a crash that closed Keystone Parkway late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, police said.

Raheem David Murray remained in the Hamilton County Jail in Noblesville Sunday afternoon.

Carmel police said Sunday’s social media post that officers pursued Murray until he pulled into the southbound lanes of Keystone Parkway, which was northbound. A short time later, there was an accident with another car, and Murray fled on foot before the police caught him.

The driver of the other vehicle, who Carmel police have not publicly identified, was treated at a nearby hospital and later released.

Carmel’s deputy police chief told News 8 via email that the crash started just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday on Keystone Parkway near 126th Street.

Photos taken by News 8’s Adele Reich around midnight Saturday show a white SUV on the northbound side of 116th Street. According to her, drivers were directed away from the roadway.

A social media post by Carmel police showed small photos of what appeared to be a suitcase containing plastic bags of marijuana; firearm; and a damaged black car. Early Sunday evening, Carmel police released photos of the suitcase and the car.

Carmel police have not said what led them to pursue Murray or when the crash occurred.

Prison records testify The Indianapolis man was booked into the Hamilton County Jail at 3:30 a.m. Sunday. He faces previous charges of trafficking marijuana; possession of marijuana; unlawful possession of a handgun after a felony conviction within the past 15 years; and resistance to law enforcement. He also faces prior misdemeanor charges of driving while suspended; resistance to law enforcement agencies; careless driving; and leave the scene of the accident.

Online court records show an arrest warrant issued in April by Marion Superior Court 27 for Raheem David Murray. In that case, filed in February 2023, the man pleaded guilty to felony charges of unlawfully carrying a handgun after a prior conviction; and marijuana trafficking. Judge Peggy Ryan Hart sent the man to a work release program for two years minus the 238 days he served in jail before sentencing, records show.
