Shooting at Walmart in Wilmington: One injured

According to police, the suspect, who was allegedly trying to rob the store, opened fire, prompting a quick response from law enforcement. Since then, the person has been detained, and the authorities have confirmed that there is no threat to the public.

A man was killed in a tragic shooting at the Monkey Junction Walmart in Wilmington Saturday night. New Hanover and Pender County District Attorney Rebecca Zimmer Donaldson confirmed that the victim’s family has been notified and the identity will be released at a later date.

The suspect, identified as Dean Michael Newman, reportedly attempted to rob the store before brandishing a firearm and shooting an employee. He fled the scene but was apprehended in the parking lot. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, and authorities have assured the public that there is no threat.
