Fatal car crash in Davenport claims life of 84-year-old man: PCSO

An elderly man died after a road accident in the Chhotyri Kuta area Davenport on Sunday morning, authorities said.

The Regiment The County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) reports that an 84-year-old man was airlifted to a hospital in Osceola County but died in emergency surgery after blunt force trauma and internal injuries from the accident.

Deputies say an investigation at the scene of the crash revealed he crashed his 2021 Ford EcoSport SUV into a 27-year-old man driving a 2018 Mazda sedan while attempting to make a left turn northbound on US 27.

The man who was driving the Mazda was treated at the scene and was not seriously injured.

Witnesses said the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. when the Ford was trying to make a left turn onto Poitras Two Road in northeast Polk County.

Authorities say it closed the southbound lanes of US 27 for three and a half hours.

The crash remains under investigation, but deputies who investigated the crash believe both men were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
