Interesting details of Joe Flacco’s contract with the Indianapolis Colts have appeared

The Indianapolis Colts shocked many when they made their fourth overall pick in 2023 Anthony Richardson in favor of a veteran defender Joe Flacco. However, as Pelissero clarifies, there are several in-game and season-long incentives in Flacco’s contract. One part of the contract that stands out is the “performance level” part, which states: “If, during the 2024 Regular Season, the Player achieves an Offensive Player at one of the levels listed below AND the Club qualifies for the Playoffs during the 2024 League Season, THEN the Club will only pay the Player the applicable amount listed below.”

In short, Flacco needs to play his best for Indianapolis. If they make the playoffs and he doesn’t get benched, injured, etc., Flacco could earn up to $1,000,000 in incentives just for that portion of the contract. Additionally, as Pelissero notes in his post, Flacco has a $100,00 bonus for every win he gets through the 2024 regular season while playing more than 50% of the snaps.

Flacco has seen plenty of prime-time games in his 17-year career and will use that experience to help Indianapolis win a tough road game. However, the Vikings have a defense that is known for constantly flashing and wreaking havoc in opposing backfields, so Flacco will have plenty of work to do as he guides Shane Steichen’s game plan in prime time.
