Dragon Ball Z has always been known for its explosive battles and iconic transformations that determine the fate of the universe. But amidst the epic battles, the series is also known for some of the most gruesome and disturbing scenes, where moments of pure terror sneak into the story. One scene in particular stands out as one of the scariest moments in the film Dragon Ball Z Universe: Majin Buu’s terrifying encounter with a man named Smitty in episode 255.

While this scene is truly horrifying in the manga, the anime version takes it to a new level of grotesque.

In the Majin Buu saga about Dragon Ball Z, Majin Buu was quick to prove that his lust for chaos and violence was his own. Buu goes on an unstoppable rampage, destroying cities and destroying anyone unlucky enough to cross his path. By this point in the saga, viewers had already seen glimpses of Buu’s unpredictable personality, which ranged from childlike innocence to cold-blooded cruelty.

But what happened in episode 255 exceeded all expectations. Smitty was a very minor character in Dragon Ball Z who hung out with Van Zant. As a gunslinger, the boy enjoyed hunting people with his young master, Zant, and this unusual habit led them to attack Majin Buu, which turned out to be Smitty’s nightmare.

Majin Buu became incredibly angry when he saw Mr. Satan getting shot at the hands of Smitty and lost control of his anger. Shortly after, he created Evil Buu, which evaporated Van Zant. Eventually, Evil Buu began to dominate Good Buu, eventually devouring him and transforming into Super Buu.

The next scene was one of the most terrible events that happened in Dragon Ball Universe. Super Boo turned into a liquid and entered Smitty’s throat, causing it to expand until it exploded.

The takeover of Smitty caused a huge backlash among Dragon Ball Z fans who were shocked by the sheer brutality of the scene. Many fans noted that this was one of the few moments in the series that truly crossed the line into the grotesque of its time.

This scene establishes Buu as more than just a physical threat; he personifies some terror which Dragon Ball Z have rarely touched this point. While Smitty is definitely guilty, the way Super Buu devoured him was a real horror, as viewers are forced to confront the idea that Buu’s attacks are not just about power, but his sadistic pleasure in inflicting pain.
