A man who has long been seeing tents set up in an East Coast park on weekends has taken to Facebook to complain about the phenomenon.

He wrote: “Do you notice that every weekend there are hundreds or tents along the highways, parks, open spaces?”

He described these “totally enclosed” camps as a “sex camp” and that they are “cheaper than booking a hotel room”.

His criticisms also included noting that the camping events were taking so long and that they were taking place in a “public recreation area designed for family activities.”

He also noted that the tents were occupied by foreign workers.

Responses to the man’s post were generally in favor of leaving the campers alone, given the limited space in Singapore for some sections of society.

Commentators pointed out that the man’s accusations were also baseless because he could not be sure that all the vacationers were engaged in illegal or sexual activities.

In addition, most of the tents were in close proximity to each other, and the materials from which they were made were thin.

Others also wrote that the campers had already set up tents to be away from the public.

Some suggested that a man should not be jealous and should get a life.

This was because tourists were said to take down their tents at the end of the day without staying on the beach overnight.

However, concerns have been raised that the camping activity actually contravenes the rules governing the use of the park by park visitors, as not all areas of the East Coast Park are open to camping.

Currently there is two designated camping sites such as the East Coast Park, and campers must apply for a free camping permit in advance to stay overnight.
