A couple has been arrested in Chennai for the death of a minor domestic help

Police in Chennai have arrested a couple accused of torturing a minor domestic helper who was found dead in their flat. The suspects, identified as Mohammed Nishad, a used car dealer, and his wife Nasiya are residents of Metha Nagar area of Chennai. They hired a 16-year-old girl from Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, as a domestic help after her mother approached Nasiya for help.

The couple reportedly found the girl dead in their bathroom on October 31. Instead of reporting the incident, they locked the bathroom door and lit incense sticks to mask the smell before going to a relative. Nishad eventually informed the Amanjikarai police about the girl’s death on November 1, but only through his lawyer. On receiving the information, a police team was dispatched to the residence where they recovered the body and sent it to Kilpauk Medical College for postmortem.

The investigation revealed disturbing evidence

Authorities said the girl’s body had burn marks, including injuries that looked like she had been burned by cigarette butts. This alarming discovery prompted the police to call the couple in for questioning. Early investigations revealed that the couple, along with a friend named Lokesh, allegedly brutally tortured the girl on the day she was found dead.

Legal actions and ongoing investigations

Both Nishad and Nasiya have been arrested and the search for Lokesh is on. Police said they are awaiting an autopsy to determine the cause of death and whether sexual assault took place. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to uncover the full extent of the allegations against the couple and their accomplice.
