Authorities say 1-year-old found dead in car after relative forgot to drop her off at daycare

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. (Gray News) – Authorities say a one-year-old child was found dead in a car outside a Florida high school after a family member forgot to drop her off at daycare.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 4:18 p.m. Friday to a call about a dead baby in a car near South Sumter High School. according to a press release.

The investigation showed that a one-year-old child was inadvertently left in the car by a family member. Authorities say the child was supposed to be dropped off at daycare, but the relative forgot about the child and went to school instead.

Later that day, a one-year-old child was found dead in a car.

“This is a tragic situation and our hearts go out to the child’s family,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing in coordination with the medical examiner’s office and the state attorney’s office.
