According to ESPN, opposing players have expressed interest in a potential trade to the Washington Commanders amid a 6-2 start to the season. Adam Schefter.

“In recent weeks, there have been players who have privately stated or told their agents that they want to be traded to the Commanders, league sources told ESPN,” Schefter wrote Saturday.

Led by standout rookie guard Jayden Daniels, Washington owns the third largest scoring offense in the NFL.

Schefter noted that the Chiefs have “explored” the possibility of adding a cornerback and also “could use some help” at wide receiver before Tuesday’s trade deadline.

Washington’s interest in Terry McLaurin was evident in the offseason. There were commanders reported played for the San Francisco 49ers, Brandon Ayuk, but he ended up signing a contract extension to stay with the team.

ESPN Jeremy Fowler also listed Washington as a potential suitor for star wide receiver Davante Adams before he finally became one are traded from the Las Vegas Raiders to the New York Jets.

The Commanders may need some extra help for the playoffs. While head coach Dan Quinn’s squad is allowing just 186 passing yards per game, opposing defenses still have a 102.0 passer rating against Washington this season. That’s the fifth-worst mark in the NFL, due to Professional football guide.

Still, the Commanders exceeded expectations largely due to Daniels’ heroics. The 2nd overall pick in the 2024 draft is making regular plays through the air and on the ground, showing why he won Heisman Trophy at LSU in 2023.

In eight starts, Daniels has completed 71.8 percent of his throws for 1,736 yards and seven touchdowns compared to just two interceptions. He also added 424 yards and four more punt scores.

Even though Washington hasn’t made the playoffs since the 2020 season, Daniels is already drawing interest from players looking for a change of scenery in his first season.
