Four teenagers were arrested in an armed carjacking on Bethesda Avenue

BETHESDA, Maryland — Four teenagers have been arrested in connection with an Oct. 19 armed carjacking on Bethesda Avenue, Montgomery County police said.

The incident happened around 9:21 p.m. when the teenagers, dressed in black and wearing masks, approached the victim who was sitting in their car in the 4800 block of Bethesda Avenue. According to police, the 17-year-old suspect brandished a gun and demanded car keys and other items from the victim. The victim complied, and the teenagers fled the scene in a stolen car.

An off-duty officer later spotted the vehicle on Wisconsin Avenue near Stanford Street and attempted a traffic stop. The suspects stopped but attempted to flee on foot. All four were arrested in the area shortly after.

The suspects include three teenagers from Silver Spring — ages 13, 14 and 17 — and a 15-year-old from Prince George’s County. The 13- and 15-year-olds were taken to the Cheltenham Juvenile Detention Center, while the 17-year-old was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged as an adult with armed carjacking, armed robbery and other related offenses. .

During the escape attempt, a 14-year-old boy suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. He was later taken into custody on October 22 and charged with armed carjacking and armed robbery before being sent to Cheltenham Detention Centre.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
